Signs From Nature

Remarkably, there were two “messengers” from nature that visited me this past week, within a couple of days of each other. First, I spotted a trio of lovely young foxes rollicking in my back yard. Here is a photo of 2 of them.

2Foxes

It’s not a great photo and I have tweaked it as much as I could, given that it was taken in a hurry from inside through our kitchen window. It’s kind of blurry, but at least I was able to capture some kind of image. My husband and I found it amazing because we live in Pittsburgh, on a busy street with the interstate / turnpike behind and down the hill from these trees you see in the photo, not in a secluded or heavily wooded area.

When I looked up foxes in my copy of Ted Andrews’ book Animal Speak: The Spiritual & Magical Powers of Creatures Great & Small, I learned that foxes represent feminine magic, shapeshifting, and invisibility, reflecting a world growing and shapeshifting into new beneficial patterns. Wow, I thought! Perhaps not all of my readers believe in the global changes that we are in the middle of now, as we approach 2012, but I certainly do. Our world IS growing into new patterns, as is the human race. We have the task of transforming our thoughts and beliefs, and consequently our outer reality into one of love and acceptance in order to thrive in the new world order. By the way, that book referenced above is a fascinating book that I have used frequently to understand such "signs" as I have noticed in my life at various times. Here is a link to it in case you want to check it out: Animal-Speak: The Spiritual & Magical Powers of Creatures Great & Small

Then a couple of days later, I was in the house and caught a shadow that passed by me from my peripheral vision. I didn’t think anything of it at first. That happens from time to time and it almost never amounts to anything physical. Next my husband exclaimed, “We have a bird inside our house!” We both looked again and it wasn’t a bird at all but a bat!

I wasn’t able to get a photo of it but here is one I found online:

Bat2

Now, I have never seen a bat up close other than a picture of one. How it got in our house is the real mystery because we are very careful not to leave any doors or windows open so that our cats can’t get outside and get hurt on our busy street. It certainly is not small enough to avoid catching our notice as we entered or exited from the house. As before, it seemed too extraordinary to ignore it or forget about it.

Again, I looked up bats in Ted’s book and saw that it represents transition and initiation – the breaking down of your former self through facing your fears. It is a challenge to let go of the old and allow the new to enter. To me it is a sign from Spirit that I am on the right track and to trust the process, which sometimes requires stepping out into the unknown and facing my fears in order to grow and move forward.

I am glad I am tuned into nature, and am very sensitive to it’s beauty and messages, especially to its creatures, which are certainly speaking to me right now! I believe it is a message to many of us and not just me. Hence, I am sharing it.

If you had any encounters with nature lately, I invite you to comment here and let’s share and compare notes on nature’s messages to us.

Creatively Yours In Spirit

Arlene

Fun article. Lately I've seen a lot of Moose (indicative of where I live--The Moose River Valley) and a deer.

Hi Arlene, visiting here from cafe mom. (hermittraveler) I just get happy smiles when I read things from our group on cafe mom. I think it is serendipitous that we kind of travel in the same cycles even though we may be so far apart. I recently haven't been on cafe mom much but funny thing is I have been looking up power animals and shamanism and getting messsages from the animals. Fox has been visiting with me lately. I hesitate to say but snake has been most prominate. I hesitate to say because she has been so prominate and I haven't even looked her up! I look forward to reading more of your posts, I hope you don't mind if I bookmark your blog too (I don't want to be too intrusive) thanks for all your posts, Sue

Hi, Coco! I have never seen a moose. I looked up Moose in my book and it says the "keynote" is primal feminine energies and the magic of life and death. It's one of the most ancient and unique power totems, apparently. That's cool that you get to see so many of them.

Sue, thanks for commenting. I love animal totems too. From a lot of past reading, Snake is a very powerful animal totem - relating to feminine energy, and of course, it represents the Kundalini energy. Animal Speak also talks of it as the symbol for transformation (the snake sheds its skin) and healing (the medical profession uses a staff circled by 2 snakes - the caduceus symbol). I don't mind that you bookmark my blog - I am honored! Thanks!

ha! It's so great to see this post. What fun synchronicity. Glad we're both looking to the Animal Speak book. It is a good one.

I had a fun experience with foxes once. I was on a day-long retreat and the teacher asked us to go out into the woods and bring back something to represent where we're at. I was wondering by myself and I heard a noise. When I turned around I saw two fox cubs playing in a pile of leaves. One of them got really close to me before it noticed me and then we spent a long moment looking at each other before I walked quietly away. It was a pretty powerful moment!
