Blue Moon Painting

Day 11 of 100 in 100 Challenge

Blue Moon

I did paint this weekend, though have not gotten to post to my blog due to family activities. My days are just not my own on weekends.

Today (Saturday) I used a technique suggested by Leah of Creative Every Day fame. It was very similar to one I have used here previously in this 100 in 100 Challenge which generated my “Doodle Creatures” (see http://www.spiritessenceart.com/2009/06/doodle-creatures.html post from June 8, 2009).

The difference is that Leah’s suggestion was to put on some music to inspire, to close your eyes and doodle on your page with a pen to allow the music to inspire you and eyes closed were (I imagine) to shut down the critical, ego-based mind. I also like to think it helps me connect to Spirit to enable the images to come through.

Additionally, I added the extra element of using my left hand (non-dominant hand) to further insure the creating came only from the right side of my brain. Also, I used pencil, so that I could erase extraneous lines when I opened my eyes.

The above design was what appeared on the page with very little adjustments or refinements. I do like this one. My feeling, however was that it could be re-done with a few improvements in the color contrasts. I found that the dark blue of the moon was too dark in contrast with the night sky background. Actually, the background was more of a purple-blue which did not show up like that on the image, no matter what I did to adjust it.

I may even do a series of this image varying the colors and even medium. I haven’t painted with acrylic paints yet – that may be something I experiment with, or I may even use my oils.

That’s about all for now -

Creatively Yours In Spirit,

Arlene

That's an interesting technique - I like how it turned out!

Wow...I love the colors, and it's hard to imagine you did this with your eyes closed AND your left hand! Very nice!

Thanks to both of you! After I did the blind sketching, I would say that 90% of the lines were already there. All I did was refine it a bit after I studied it for a while.

Next time I do one of these, I must document what it looks like after I lift my pen or pencil and before I embellish.

Beautiful work!!! Love it!

And yes, I agree, I think this kind of technique can help you connect with your spiritual side, however you see it. It definitely works that way for me too.
