Paintings #48, #49, and #50 of 100 in 100
It’s been a crazy week and for some reason, though I have painted I have not gotten to post them here. In fact it has been a week since I posted. I have missed a few days of painting, especially last weekend, but in my mind, I thought that since I was several paintings ahead I was ok.
The only problem with that for me is that it sets up an “excuse” for not creating and it can trip me up, if I let it. So there have been several days when I did not really paint anything though I shuffled things around in the studio with no results, and a couple of days I didn’t even get into my studio at all! Not good. I have also been feeling the loss and even feeling uninspired.
Anyway, I will share all 3 paintings I have done in the last few days in this post, which actually marks the halfway mark in the number of paintings!
This one gave me trouble. I had an image in my mind, in fact – I had two images. The title was what came to me first. My first rough sketch was of an angel with 7 other children in a circle holding hands. I may still do that one later, but for some reason it just didn’t come together. Then the image of her swinging was the one I selected. Then I had so much difficulty drawing her that I gave up in disgust one day. Thankfully, I went back to it and was finally able to complete the drawing and then paint it in watercolors the next day.
I really liked the last cityscape I did a week ago for my son’s birthday gift, so I decided to do another one. I found a picture of another harbor at night and the buildings were all lit up and had search lights lit which reflected into the dark sky and the lights of the buildings again reflected in the water. I liked the colors and all, so I painted it in watercolors without making it look exactly like the image I had but borrowing shapes and colors from it. It was fun to paint.
The story about this one is amusing. My grand-daughter is celebrating her 7th birthday this week, and her mom (my daughter-in-law) was planning some birthday games and such for her party. Instead of “pin the tail on the donkey” she wanted to have “put the bone in the dog’s mouth” game. She asked me, the resident family artist, if I could draw up a dog’s face on some foam display board she had gotten for that purpose. I agreed, and it was my idea to make it the face of their family dog. Of course I wasn’t satisfied with just sketching a cartoon dog’s face – No. I had to make it a “piece of art”.
I sketched his face on some paper, copied it to the foam board, and got out my acrylic paints. I wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out since I had never painted a dog before. I liked it – his colors are not exactly like his photograph, but I am happy with the result given I only had 1 day’s notice to do it.
Talk to you again soon!

I especially love the city scape painting. Beautiful!
I think one of the thing that amazes me the most about your painting is that you do so many different things!
Yay! You made it! Half way there. I love these. Especially the doggie.
I too am behind and missing days and rushing to catch up and all over the place. It's quite a commitment.
But look at us! 50 paintings in!
