Let’s Move!

Paintings #72 - #78 of 100 in 100 Challenge

I have been thinking about this month’s theme of Move for the Creative Every Day challenge and, as usual, Leah has provided some excellent examples and ideas to inspire us to incorporate this theme into our creative activities this month.  I’d love to be able to get up and dance and move my body to help move the creative flow in new and exciting ways.  I do have some difficulty with that at the moment because of the arthritis in my hip and other joints.

Today I read about another artist that Leah interviewed and shared with us – Cynthia Winton-Henry of Interplay who, among other things, suggested something called “hand dancing” that I could utilize even with my aching hip.  That was fascinating and I generally love the idea of getting more into moving my body to get me out of my “head”.  I know first hand that this helps inspire my creativity so much.

I also have realized that I am moving forward in my artwork in general, especially since I have been creating nearly every day in one form or another.  When I think back even a couple of months ago, I can see real movement in my paintings and writing as well.  I am generally hard on myself, though, and expect so much of myself.

I so much want to be contributing in some major way to others, through my painting or writing.  It’s difficult sometimes for me to see if I am moving in the right direction with this as I have so infrequently made any sales of my artwork.  This is the only “objective” measure I have of whether my art has had any impact on others.  Sure, I can imagine that it still has even if it hasn’t resulted in a sale of my work.  However, I do struggle with believing that at times.  Can anyone relate to that?

Well, the other part of this post is to share more of my work on my “project”, and once again, I will show you only small details of the work.  I am getting so close to finishing it!  Here they are:

I can relate to your pain and struggle.
I would love to dance wildly - can now only manage a bit.
I love the glimpses of your watercolour.
That you can see you are moving forward is all that matters. Congrats!

Greetings! The hand bone's connected to the hip bone. One of the things I love about hand dancing is that whatever the movement is, contemplative or wild, the energy communicates to the heart, soul, and rest of the body. Hooray! I hope you get to check out the book that Skylight Paths Publishing is sending out this Fall Dance- a Sacred Art: Discovering the Joy of Movement as spiritual practice. Lots of similar ideas. You can also go the interplay.org website and click on friday morning virtual interplay and get similar practices in a wonderful little experiential package each week. Wheeee. Many blessings and thanks to Gretchen and Leah for connecting me to this community.
